I am an individual interested in learning a language abroad. How do I become a member of ALTO?
Membership with ALTO is not available on an individual basis. It is only open to organisations involved in language and educational travel programmes. ALTO is a business-to-business association and is not involved with placing candidates in vacancies. If you are interested in a language or educational travel opportunity, please contact one of the ALTO members in your country of residence, or in the country in which you’d like to study. Why should my organisation become an ALTO member?
Membership will expose your organisation to new networking opportunities, will keep you updated on trends and developments in the industry and allow your organisation to play a key role in shaping the standards of the language and educational travel industry. How does my organisation become a member of ALTO?
If your organisation is involved in language and/or educational travel, and has been established as a bonafide organisation for at least two years, then you are eligible to apply for membership with ALTO. There is an application form in the Application section on the website (downloadable in pdf format) for you to fill out and send in.
How long will it take for my organisation´s application to be processed?
Membership applications can take up to 2 months to process. The reason for this is that all member applicants are screened to ensure that only reputable, financially sound companies are admitted as members.
When I send company documents to ALTO, who will view them?
ALTO works under the strict policy that all member applicant information received is to be treated as highly confidential. Only the Director General, Finance Manager and selected professional staff of the World Youth Student & Educational Travel Confederation view your application documents.
What happens to my application after I send it to ALTO?
1. After ALTO receives your application, complete with all supporting documentation, the World Youth Student & Educational Travel Confederation Director General screens each application individually. If any concerns arise during this screening process, the applicant is contacted, and action is advised. 2. A summary of each application along with the Director General’s endorsement is submitted to Congress and the ALTO Executive Board for final review. 3. Within two weeks of approval by the ALTO Executive Board, each applicant is notified whether they have been accepted as a members.
How often do I have to pay membership fees to the Association?
Members are required to pay an annual membership fee. Invoices are issued in early January for the period January 1 – December 31. New members will receive an invoice no later than 3 months after being awarded provisional members status.
I am already a member of ALTO and my organisation has just moved and changed its address. Who should I inform?
If your organisation’s contact details change, you must notify ALTO immediately. As a member of ALTO, your company information is displayed online, it is therefore very important that we have your correct details at all times. If your company name changes while you are a member or a member applicant, we must also be informed immediately.
