Fantastic ALTO event in London
11 September 2011
Monday 5th September saw the first of the ALTO Professional
Development Seminars take place at London’s Westminster Park Plaza hotel.
Conveniently timed to fill the spare Monday between Alphe London and
StudyWorld, the event ran for the best part of a whole day and was a huge
success.

| Part of ALTO’s mission is to provide outstanding professional development
events as well as excellent opportunities for the leaders of our industry to
network, and the first of these events certainly lived up to that mission. The
guest speaker was Verne Harnish, who is founder of the world-renowned Entrepreneurs’
Organization (EO) and who chaired for fifteen years EO’s premiere CEO program,
the "Birthing of Giants” and WEO’s "Advanced Business” executive program both
held at MIT. Founder and CEO of Gazelles, a global executive education and
coaching company, Verne has spent the past 29 years educating entrepreneurial teams. The "Growth Guy” syndicated columnist, he’s also a regular contributing writer for Fortune magazine’s Venture section. Verne is also the author of Mastering the Rockefeller Habits, which is endorsed by over 100 CEOs of mid-size companies and is published in Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Serbian, Polish, Dutch and Spanish.

ALTO
members all received copies of the book which most agreed proved a terrific
lead-in to the event. The title of the
Seminar was "Dominating Your Industry: Four Critical Decisions - Mastering the Rockefeller Habits: Three Key Disciplines for Driving Execution”
and focused on the four critical
decisions that anchor an effective strategy for dominating your industry and which
revolve around Verne’s famous one-page strategic planning document and three
additional one-page tools. As the "Growth Guy” syndicated columnist, Verne
provided practical and "actionable” tools that growth companies can use in
creating focus, alignment, better communication, and an industry dominating strategy.

 | Verne proved to be a captivating and pertinent
speaker, keeping the eighty-plus delegates enthralled throughout the dayand
leaving them all with much food for thought (and a long list of suggested
reading material). Feedback from the event showed that over 87% of attendees
rated the speaker as either very good or excellent, which is a ringing
endorsement from the leaders of the language travel industry.
This is what some of the ALTO members had to say about the event: |
"in spite of the
early Monday start, I was particularly impressed with the speaker and
organisation of the ALTO day last week and hope this heralds the start of a
bright new future for the association” – Andrew Hutchinson, Director- Kings
Colleges
"Verne was personable,
approachable, professional, engaging and an all-around excellent speaker” - Kristy Wathen, Marketing Executive- Home Language International
"I'll go back with a lot of ideas what to do better now" - Barbara Jaeschke, Managing Director- GLS Sprachenzentrum
"...learning with a key speaker is a fantastic opportunity we rarely have..." - Maura Leão, President- BELTA
For those ALTO members who were unfortunate enough to have missed the event, don’t worry as we
video recorded the whole seminar and it is
available on our website to be viewed (and the related documents downloaded) for
the next two months only. Don’t miss this opportunity to watch Verne either for
the first time or again and again…..
